Reading List Recs #1: The False Prince

Helloooo friend.

I wouldn’t really describe myself as much of a reader, but lately, that’s changed a bit and I’ve decided to start a [semi] regular reading recommendations series. Basically a reading list of books I think you might like, or at least that I like.

I would like to preface this series by saying I’m a simple reader. I don’t particularly love long involved plots (they tend to lose my interest) that go for chapters without anything in particular happening.

I will still read those if enough people are recommending them to me, and assume it will be worth it in the end. But if you come here for my book recommendations, just know, even though I’m not super picky, I need something that doesn’t lag too much and might be critical of books that fall into that category.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t say I’m particularly picky about genre or author, as long as they don’t drown us in the details.

If you have a book recommendation I would really appreciate it if you’d leave it in the comments!

About The Book

The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen

I do love a classic adventure story. Castles, pirates, sword-fights, all that. The False Prince and the subsequent books in the series really hit all the right notes.

It’s an adventure story, following a young orphan who is forced to take part in a dangerous plan to steal a kingdom. He has to compete with other orphans to win a throne he doesn’t want. The problem is the orphans and their keeper, a man named Conner, might be the only thing that will keep the kingdom from falling into disarray.

The writing is easy to read and the plot moves along at just the right pace for me. It’s not overly complicated, but the author does an excellent job of weaving the plot together and connecting new dots for us along the way. The dialogue and characters are entertaining and do just enough to tell us what we need to know about them without drowning us in details.

I also really appreciate that even though there is a touch of romance in this series, it doesn’t dominate the storyline in any way. It definitely exists and does move the story along but isn’t the focus. It’s endearing and believable without being over-the-top or annoying. I’m not a big romance fan and get tired of stories that focus solely on the romantic relationship, instead of the adventure itself. So that’s another point for The False Prince!

Something new and interesting happens every few pages so if you’re someone who loses interest in books easily, this is a great series for you.

Should you read it?

The False Prince series is a great, epic escape full of danger, mystery, quick-witted characters, and a storyline that will make you want to read the next book. Yes! Add it to your list!

A whole library of books-they’ve gotten some really good reviews-I’ve done all the covers-start with Dead and Dead for Real- Would love to get your opinion. It reads well and is very quick-not too many details.

    Thanks
